NGR Monitoring (NGRM)
Resistance grounded systems are found often in medium voltage applications. However, they can also be found in the low-voltage sector, for example in paper production, in mining, or on ships.
The usage of a neutral grounding resistor (NGR) shall limit the maximum fault current. That avoids possible damage and the dangers of an earth fault. Since the system is technically grounded via the NGR, protective relays are used as usual.
The early detection of a change in the value of the NGR makes it possible to plan repairs in advance and to point out previously undetected dangers.
NGR monitors measure:
- Voltage,
- Current through the NGR and the
- uninterrupted connection of the NGR
- as well as the voltage from phase to earth.
This information helps when planning maintenance measures and improves general system availability, but also helps to avoid dangerous situations for people and machines.
